Should I get a chemical peel?

Chemical Peel
Men and women who visit the Skin Center of South Miami wanting to improve the texture, tone, and overall appearance of their skin are often told to consider the benefits of a chemical peel. Chemical peels are treatments that are administered by a doctor and help in rejuvenating the skin. A special blend of chemicals is applied to the skin and allowed to exfoliate and improve skin cell turnover. This allows patients to achieve a radiant, beautiful level of skin that they may have never been able to achieve with home skincare regimens.

Should I get a chemical peel?

Patients considering chemical peels should speak to their provider to determine if it is the best way to address their skin care needs. During an initial evaluation, patients will consult with their doctor to discuss the areas of concern they have. The doctor can then use that information to develop a skin care plan that will alleviate these issues. In cases where patients are interested in addressing a wide range of conditions on the face, chemical peels may be the treatment of choice. Chemical peels can be used to address a variety of problems, including:

  • Skin discoloration/pigmentation issues
  • Scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Poor skin texture and tone
  • Dull skin appearance
  • Diminished brilliance and shine
  • Active acne

Because chemical peels are so versatile, they are often suggested to many of our patients seeking more beautiful skin!

What types of chemical peels are available?

There are three main types of chemical peels, including light, medium, and deep. The light peels are more superficial and only address the outer layer of skin. Light chemical peels can be performed every two or three weeks until achieving the desired results. Deep peels, however, are more aggressive. They can remove skin cells from not only the top layer of the skin, but the mid and lower layers. A deep chemical peel cannot be done repeatedly. It often requires extensive time off of work and social activities as the skin heals.
