BOTOX® Injections in Miami

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Facial expression lines, also known as worry lines, frown lines, laugh lines, or crow’s feet, are caused by repeated contractions of delicate facial muscles. With every laugh, smile, or frown, the wrinkles deepen, eventually becoming tell-tale marks of a lifetime of emotions. Botulinum toxin, otherwise known as BOTOX Cosmetic, is one of the most common non-surgical treatment options used to combat the effects of aging.

Few other treatments are as effective as botulinum toxin for rejuvenating the upper face, and the treatment itself is simple and quick. Our doctors at the Skin Center of South Miami have certified injectors of BOTOX Cosmetic, the most commonly used brand of botulinum toxin. Your physician will let you know how to time these treatments appropriately to maximize your results. If you intend on having any chemical peels or resurfacing treatments, these will need to be performed at least two to three weeks before your injections or after your skin has completely healed.

Botox® Procedure

During your BOTOX® Cosmetic face injection treatment sessions, a medical form of a bacterial substance called botulinum toxin is injected just beneath the skin. The solution prevents nerve impulses from stimulating your facial muscles, thereby causing them to relax. The result is a reduction and softening of facial lines and wrinkles.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Safe?

BOTOX® was approved for medical use in 1989. BOTOX® Cosmetic, the same medication under a different name, was approved for cosmetic use in April of 2002. As the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, there are millions of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections administered in the United States every year. Very few of these result in complications.

While time-tested and considered generally safe, BOTOX® Cosmetic can cause some swelling, bruising, and redness at the injection site. These things should be temporary and self-resolve. Headache and nausea are also possible following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. These, too, should be temporary.

Serious complications with BOTOX® Cosmetic are extremely rare and often linked to an allergic reaction. During your initial consultation, we will review your medical history to help you determine if treatment is right for you.

What Age Do I Have To Be To Get BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved for use in adults over 18. Many people start to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic injections in their mid to late 20s to help slow visible signs of aging. Still, this treatment is effective for mild to moderate dynamic wrinkles regardless of age.

Some patients notice they have forehead lines forming in their early 20s and 30s, while other patients may only want to treat expression lines in their 40s and beyond. There is no wrong time to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic, so long as you are a suitable candidate for treatment.

Do BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections Hurt?

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are essentially painless. We can administer a topical anesthetic if you are nervous about discomfort. You should not feel any pain during your procedure.

Mild discomfort at the injection sites is possible following treatment. This is easily treatable with over-the-counter pain medication and should resolve within one to two days.

Can I Wear Makeup After Getting BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections?

You can wear makeup soon, but not immediately after receiving injections. Most people are best waiting for at least 24-hours before applying makeup following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. We will provide you with aftercare instructions to help you determine when it is safe to resume all of your skincare routines.

How Long Does it Take to See BOTOX® Results?

The results usually onset gradually over the next seven to ten days.

How Long Will My BOTOX® Results Last?

Once your results are fully in effect, you may see very dramatic improvements that last up to three or four months. Repeat treatments can be done periodically to maintain your results.

FAQs

Is There a Substitute for BOTOX Cosmetic?

Xeomin® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that can be used as an alternative to BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport®. Like BOTOX Cosmetic, Xeomin is a botulinum toxin type A, and it can effectively treat unwanted signs of aging on the face.

Will BOTOX Cosmetic Make Me Look Frozen?

No, when administered correctly, BOTOX Cosmetic does not leave patients unable to make expressions. However, due to the paralytic nature of the neurotoxin, it will impact your range of motion when making certain expressions, such as frowning. To avoid an overdone or unnatural result, it is important to work with a skilled plastic surgeon or dermatologist who can administer BOTOX Cosmetic injections properly.

Is BOTOX Cosmetic Only For Women?

Absolutely not! Anyone can receive BOTOX Cosmetic treatments. In recent years, men have become increasingly aware of and interested in plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments, including injectables. We encourage you to reach out to us to learn more!

How Many Injections Do I Need?

BOTOX Cosmetic is administered in units. Vials are available in 50, 100, and 200 units. Your physician will dilute the solution with saline before injection. The number of units required for each patient varies based on the target areas they wish to treat and the depth of their wrinkles.
