Best Dermal Fillers & Sculptra® Injections in South Miami & Pinecrest, FL

Best Dermal Fillers South Miami FL

As our skin matures, the underlying fullness gives way to noticeable creases and folds that cause us to appear tired and older than we feel. This is caused by a gradual loss of supporting skin structures that give strength and integrity to the skin. Acne breakouts can also leave deep scars that can detract from an otherwise smooth complexion. At the Skin Center of South Miami, we use a variety of injectable fillers to restore a more youthful look.

Our practice is led by board-certified dermatologists and a board-certified physician assistant with advanced training in medical and cosmetic dermatology. They bring extensive clinical experience and specialized expertise to every treatment. Patients in South Miami and Pinecrest, Florida, can feel confident knowing their injectable care is performed by highly trained professionals in a state-of-the-art dermatology center.

What Is an Injectable Dermal Filler?

An injectable dermal filler is a gel-like substance placed beneath the skin to restore lost volume, soften lines, and enhance facial contours. As collagen and elastin naturally decrease over time, the skin can begin to look thinner and less supported. Fillers help replenish that structure, creating a smoother and fuller appearance in targeted areas of the face.

Different fillers are designed for different purposes. Some add subtle volume to the lips or cheeks, while others improve deeper folds around the nose and mouth. Certain products, such as Sculptra®, work by stimulating collagen production over time rather than creating immediate volume.

Why Are Dermal Fillers Used?

A natural, youthful face is full and not tight. Over time and due to exposure to things like the sun, skin imperfections can occur. Although the upper face can be easily rejuvenated with Botox®, the lower face is less responsive and requires a different set of filling injections, such as Sculptra®. These include lip injections/lip fillers, cheek fillers, under-eye fillers, and other face fillers.

What Issues Are Dermal Fillers Used to Treat?

Age-related changes in the lips, mouth, and face that may improve with the use of dermal fillers include:

  • Lip thinning
  • Downturn of the corners of the mouth
  • Deep creases along the sides of the nose
  • Lines and wrinkles in the forehead
  • Skin depressions

Fillers can improve the appearance of noticeable lines and wrinkles, exaggerated skin folds, and acne scars. Some dermal fillers can enhance and accentuate the lip contours to give a stunning look to otherwise unremarkable, plain, or thin lips. Other injections can restore the overall volume to sunken facial features that accompany the aging process.

What Is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin. It is made up of microspheres (a spherical shell) of poly-L-lactic acid, a material similar to that used in dissolvable sutures. Because poly-L-lactic acid is the main ingredient in Sculptra®, patients do not require a test for allergic reactions.

Unlike other filler treatments such as Restylane®, Perlane®, or Juvederm®, treatment with Sculptra® does not result in an immediate effect. Sculptra® takes time to gradually correct skin depressions by stimulating the formation of collagen by the cells in the lower layer of skin. Multiple treatment sessions are usually required at monthly intervals to achieve the desired result.

What Does Facial Filler Treatment Involve?

During a short in-office procedure, one of our experienced injectable filler physicians will inject a small amount of the dermal filler just beneath your skin. In most cases, this takes a matter of minutes to perform, and you can continue your regular daily activities shortly after.

Most patients visit our office periodically for filler treatments, which vary in the length they will last, depending on the exact type of filler you use. One of our knowledgeable dermatologists at the Skin Center of South Miami will spend time evaluating your skin and determining the best filler options for your needs. At that time, your doctor will walk you through exactly what you can expect during treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Dermal Fillers Safe for All Skin Types and Tones?

Dermal fillers are considered safe for all skin types and tones when performed by a qualified provider. Most fillers are made from substances like hyaluronic acid, which the body naturally produces and typically tolerates well. Because fillers are placed beneath the skin, they do not affect pigmentation.

Your provider will review your medical history and goals to choose the right product and injection technique for you.

How Should I Prepare for My Dermal Filler Appointment?

Preparation is simple. You may be advised to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E, for several days before treatment to reduce bruising. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Arrive with clean skin and inform your provider of any recent procedures or health changes to help ensure a smooth treatment experience.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Most healthy adults who want to restore facial volume, soften lines, or enhance certain features may be good candidates for dermal fillers. Ideal candidates are not pregnant or breastfeeding and do not have active skin infections in the treatment area.

How Long Do Dermal Filler Results Typically Last?

The longevity of dermal fillers depends on the type of product used and the area treated. Many hyaluronic acid fillers last between 6 and 18 months, while collagen-stimulating treatments like Sculptra® can last up to two years or longer in some patients. Maintenance treatments help extend and preserve your results.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Dissolved if Needed?

Certain fillers, specifically those made from hyaluronic acid, can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This allows your provider to adjust or reverse results if necessary. However, fillers that stimulate collagen production, such as Sculptra®, cannot be dissolved and gradually fade over time.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Combined With Botox® or Other Cosmetic Treatments?

Yes, dermal fillers are often combined with Botox® or other cosmetic treatments for a more comprehensive approach. Botox® relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines, while fillers restore lost volume. Your provider can create a customized treatment plan that safely combines procedures to meet your aesthetic goals.
