Are my 50’s too old for Botox?

Portrait of serene mature woman in gardenFine lines, wrinkles, and folds on the face are often the most noticeable signs of aging in both men and women. Over the years, as the skin naturally loses its collagen and elastin stores, the skin becomes thinner and more relaxed. This is what is responsible for the formation of wrinkles and folds as skin laxity relaxes the skin enough to cause it to change in texture. While patients might think of a facelift to address these issues, many South Miami, Florida area adults are excited to learn about alternative options that are nonsurgical, such as cosmetic injectables. One of the most popular is Botox!

What is Botox and how does it work?

Many patients are familiar with the brand Botox but might not fully understand how it works in reducing the signs of aging. Botox is considered a neuromodulator, which is used to reduce muscle contractions. When Botox is injected into specific muscles of the face, it can keep these muscles from tightening and therefore smooth away dynamic wrinkles that form.  It is best used on imperfections around the upper portion of the face, such as the glabellar lines between the eyebrows, the folds on the forehead, and lines around the eyes known as crow’s feet.

How long does Botox last?

The results from Botox will appear within a week of the initial injections and will last several months before the lines and wrinkles reform. To maintain the results, patients will want to visit the team at the Skin Center of South Miami on a regular basis.

Am I too old for Botox?

During an evaluation with our team, we can determine if Botox will provide the results patients desire. In some cases, severe skin laxity may still benefit from plastic surgery to address, and we can refer patients to a professional in the area to have the procedure completed if they desire.
